A successful TeachMeet

On Tuesday 26th June 2018 we hosted our first ever Inspire TeachMeet at St Paul’s Catholic College. This was a great opportunity for staff from local schools to share a range of ideas, strategies and reflections with all who attended.

We were fortunate to have the brilliant Dr Julia Sutherland from the University of Sussex deliver the keynote on how to develop students’ reading ages through a more ‘immersive’ approach to reading; with the new, more rigorous GCSE examinations, this was particularly timely and gave us much food for thought of how to develop reading within our own classrooms. Julia was followed by seven presentations, with presenters from local schools, as well as three of our own from St Paul’s.

The range of topics covered was broad, with emerging themes around supporting and challenging all students, developing working and long-term memory, effective formative assessment, innovative revision approaches and the use of technology to improve teaching. The calibre of these presentations was exceptional and each contained evidence-informed ideas which could easily be taken away and tried out within the classroom; this is what a TeachMeet is all about.

We would like to thank all the presenters and guests and look forward to seeing you all again next year!
