There’s an app for that

St Paul’s Catholic College is delighted to launch its first official app for students with iOS devices created by James Allison; an enthusiastic Computing student studying in the Sixth Form.

The app allows students to quickly and conveniently check for ILTs (independent learning tasks) and access their timetable directly from their phone or tablet. With just a few taps of the finger, students can access their ILTs including any relevant attachments, mark off ILTs as they are completed and see a historic list of tasks.

It has been a real pleasure to work with James to formulate a closely integrated app solution that works with our already popular in-house systems for ILT and timetable. James has proven himself to be an enthusiastic and highly skilled programmer, keen to listen to the feedback of his target audience, to create something that has had a lasting impact on students across the school.

Students can go one step further by downloading the Office suite of apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook) from the app store as part of our Office 365 subscription for even better integration with ILT attachments.

Once students’ have logged into the app, it remembers their credentials. No need to sign into Gateway every time to check their ILT or view their timetable. The timetable itself defaults to the current day and clearly shows whether it’s a Week A or B. It provides a fast and efficient way of organising oneself for the day ahead.

James is keen to continue developing the app further for the benefit of our whole College community by adding in push notifications for new ILTS, providing access for parents and supporting on a wider range of devices like Android. We are excited to see what James will come up with next!
