Impressive teamwork at Blacklands Farm

A gloriously sunny day at Blacklands Farm, the fun-filled activity site in Sussex, provided the perfect opportunity for our year 7 students to face their fears, challenge themselves to try something new and to develop their skills in teamwork and leadership.

Small groups of 10 students, a team leader and a guardian angel made their way around the activity site, participating in a range of activities including team building exercises, archery, abseiling, crate-building, leap-of-faith and the woodland assault course.

It was wonderful to see how our students threw themselves into every activity (including the nail-bitingly scary ones), pulling together as a team to overcome the challenges they faced.

Team A (my team) started out with the team building activities which proved to be a great ice breaker and warm-up for the activities to follow. From there they each faced the crate-stacking challenge, where pairs stood on an ever-taller stack of crates and had to work together to maintain balance and achieve the highest stack before they toppled over. After lunch on the lawn in the sunshine, it was Team A to the abseiling tower where students quickly overcame their fear of heights. Later in the afternoon, after a quick go on the woodland assault course, we headed down to the archery where Team A demonstrated skills that Robin Hood would be pleased with.

Throughout the day, I was impressed by the encouragement and support that my team provided to one another and their willingness for others to succeed. Everyone’s personal challenge was different but every student achieved their own goal. Well done year 7!
