A Celebration of The Bard's 400 Year Legacy

11 July 2016 | Mr Clayton | Share this article

Every July over 100 pupils from years 7 to 10 take part in our festival, performing in abridged works of our greatest ever playwright.

He was not of an age but for all time

— Ben Jonson

2016 marks the 400th anniversary of his death and we thank you for joining us to celebrate this milestone.

Our tribute to Shakepeare began last week when our year 12 Drama and Theatre students travelled to his home town - Stratford Upon Avon - and actually performed "A Midsummer Nights Dream" on the Royal Shakepeare Company's stage. There was also time to visit the great man's last resting place - and where he was actually born!

The RSC's Peter Basham came into college to deliver workshops on performing Shakespeare with year 10 and 7!

A huge thank you to the amazing actors – all 104 of them- from years 7 to 10 who took part in last week’s Shakespeare Festival. The response from students, parents and teachers alike has been fantastic and we are all very proud of you all. Huge congratulations on a great week of performances – from Year 7’s productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet through to Year 8’s Macbeth and The Comedy of Errors , and finishing with the brilliant year 9 and 10’s versions of King Lear and Othello.

If you would like to get involved next year- please come and chat to us in music and drama.
