The Amazing Book Awards

We recently attended the awards evening for The Amazing Book Awards at Shoreham Academy. The ABA’s are the fastest growing Young Adult Book Awards in the UK. The great (and fairly unique) thing about the awards is that only students choose the shortlist, and only students choose the winners. And we all get to meet the shortlisted authors at the awards evening!

St Paul’s was one of about 30 school taking part this year and we had time in our enrichment afternoons to read and discuss the incredible shortlisted books and vote for our favourites. As if that wasn’t enough, there was also a Dalek and an Imperial Stormtrooper present as we walked into Shoreham Academy!

This year, the Shortlist consisted of:

  • Ink, by Alice Broadway
  • Sleeper, by J D Fennell
  • Noah Can’t Even, by Simon James Green
  • I Have No Secrets, by Penny Joelson
  • Re-Made, by Alex Scarrow

Each of these stories were hard to put down after the first few sentences; each were appealing in their own way. It was acutely difficult to choose a favourite, but in the end, the winner was I Have No Secrets by Penny Joelson. 2nd and 3rd places went to Ink by Alice Broadway and Noah Can’t Even by Simon James Green.

All of the Shortlist books are marvellous and we think that it’s worth you giving them a read.
